Plantskydd Deer Repellent is considered the most cost-effective and environmentally safe animal
repellent available. Plantskydd is accepted and used by leading forest companies, nurseries, private
woodlot owners, landscapers, and home gardeners, as well as State/Provincial and National Conservation agencies.
Plantskydd Deer Repellent is made in the USA and is a 100% natural, environmentally friendly product.
Plantskydd Soluble Powder Concentrate is 'Listed' by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI - trw-9589). Plantskydd
is member tested and recommended by the National Home
Gardening Club.
Plantskydd Deer Repellent was initially developed in Sweden
in 1991 in response to commercial forest plantations being decimated by plant eating mammals. The forest industry needed an
animal repellent that could last through severe weather and meet Sweden's
strict environmental laws. Plantskydd's long-term effectiveness is attributable to the tenacity
of its 100% natural, vegetable oil binder in sticking to plants, even under severe snow/rainfall conditions: up to 6 months
over winter, 3-4 months in summer. The Swedish name for the product "Plantskydd" translates as "Plant
Protection".
Plantskydd Deer Repellent works by emitting an odor that animals associate with predator activity, repelling the animal before
it nibbles on plants. Research has proven that odor-based repellents are more effective than other repellent systems where
the animal needs to taste treated plants before being repelled. Once animals are attracted to an area and begin feeding, it
is more difficult to discourage them from returning. Plantskydd stimulates a fear-based response
which will have deer, elk, moose, opossum, and rabbits looking to dine somewhere other than your garden or plantation.
Plantskydd® Deer Repellent is the browse deterrent of choice for leading North American forest companies who use it to successfully
prevent plantation damage by deer, rabbits, elk and moose to millions of conifer and hardwood trees, including: cedar, spruce,
fir, pine, alder, birch, larch, and poplar species. Many customers have provided positive anecdotal feedback as to the effectiveness
of Plantskydd in protecting plants against other herbivores (plant eating mammals).
Nurseries and landscapers
find Plantskydd® Deer Repellent to be equally effective in protecting flowers, shrubs, and ornamentals.
What makes it effective?
Plantskydd Deer Repellent works by emitting an odor that animals associate with predator activity, repelling the animal before
it nibbles on plants. The odor is not unpleasant to the applicator.

Which repellents actually work ?
"
...Studies investigating trends in efficacy of deer repellents indicate that, of the 20 products tested, repellents with active
ingredients that emitted sulfurous odors i.e.: bloodmeal or egg solids, generally provided the best
results..."
"...Products
that contained active ingredients which cause pain/irritation (capsaicin, allyl isothiocyanate),
or illness (thiram) were less effective..."
"...Products
that use a bitter taste (denatonium benzoate) were usually the least effective in reducing damage
by herbivores. Repellents that were applied to plant surfaces were generally more effective than capsules or other devices
that produced an odor intended to protect a specific area."

Plantskydd's Development
Plantskydd® Deer Repellent was first developed in Sweden
in 1991 in response to commercial forest plantations being decimated by deer, moose and rabbits. The forest industry needed
an animal repellent that could last through severe weather and meet Sweden's
strict environmental laws.
Plantskydd's effectiveness as a long lasting animal browse repellent was substantiated in Field Trials 1991-1994 and the results
published in the Scandinavian Journal of Forest Research - J. Berquist & G. Olander, Swedish
University of Agricultural Sciences - ASA
Forest Research Station, 1996.
100% Natural
The formulations- Plantskydd powder concentrate (trw-9589) and Plantskydd
granular (trw-731) are Listed by the Organic Material Review Institute (OMRI) as
suitable for use in the production of organic food and fibre.
Plantskydd is exempt from federal EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) pesticide registration. Plantskydd
contains no synthetic additives, is non-toxic and is not harmful to animals, plants or the environment.
The 'active' ingredient is dried blood (porcine and/or bovine)- recognized by the EPA as an environmentally safe ingredient.
In the United States, *bloodmeal* is an EPA (Environmental
Protection Agency) exempted product/minimum risk pesticide and is exempt from the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act requirements, specifically under Section 25(b) c.f. Federal Register, 61(45), Mar. 6, 1996 and therefore is not subject to federal registration.
"The EPA has determined ... that the use of these
pesticides poses insignificant risks to human health or the environment ...
"The Agency in promulgating this rule, is responding
to society's increasing demand for more natural and benign methods of pest control ... "

In Canada and the United States, Plantskydd's effectiveness as an animal browse deterrent has been confirmed since 1994
in Operational Level Field Trials undertaken by large forest industry Cooperators on millions of conifer and deciduous trees
of various species.
It is now considered the most cost-effective and environmentally safe animal
browse deterrent available and is used by leading forest companies, nurseries, private woodlot owners, landscapers, home gardeners,
as well as State/Provincial and Federal Conservation agencies.
Available in either soluble powder, pre-mix or granular formulation, Plantskydd
repels: deer, elk, moose, rabbits and opossum by means of odor - which is not offensive to either applicators or planters
either during or after plant treatment.
Fertilizing Effects
As an added benefit, Plantskydd Deer Repellent acts as a foliar
feed fertilizer for many types of plants. Bloodmeal, Plantskydd's active
ingredient, has long been recognized as an organic fertilizer. Studies performed by Pennsylvania
State University showed that
the use of Plantskydd on a variety of flowering plants resulted in a fertilizing effect.
"All plants tested that were treated with Plantskydd
were larger, had more flowers and generally had greener leaves. This response is typical of the response created by an increased
level of fertilization."

What is Plantskydd?
Developed in Sweden
in 1991 to protect tree plantations being decimated by deer, moose, and rabbits—while also meeting strict environmental
laws. It is equally effective protecting: flowers, fruit trees, gardens,
ornamental shrubs, conifer and broadleaf plants. It is now Made
in the USA from 100% natural ingredients: dried blood (porcine and/or bovine), vegetable oil, and water.
Is Plantskydd safe to use?
YES! Plantskydd contains no synthetic additives,
is non-toxic, and is not harmful to animals or the environment. Plantskydd’s
active ingredient (dried blood) is recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency as an environmentally safe ingredient
and exempt from federal EPA pesticide registration. (See EPA statement)
Can I use Plantskydd on my vegetable garden?
Yes! Plantskydd is safe for use in protecting fruit, vegetables and other food crops against animal browse damage.
Plantskydd’s soluble powder concentrate
formulation was the first animal repellent to be ‘OMRI Listed’ (trw-9589) by the Organic Materials Review Institute
as “suitable for use in the production of organic food and fiber.”
NEW Granular Plantskydd
is also ‘OMRI Listed’ (trw-731) and USDA approved for organic gardening.
Why does Plantskydd work
so well?
Animals avoid plants before they bite—not after! Plantskydd
repels by emitting an odor (not unpleasant to applicators) browsing animals associate with predator activity—stimulating
a fear-based response that will have garden feeders looking for somewhere else to dine. Research proven
more effective than other repellent systems.

Forest Regeneration (2000)
Over 50+ Field Tests* conducted in Canada and the USA since 1994, by foresters, professional growers and landscapers
confirmed Plantskydd’s unmatched
plant protection efficacy against: deer, elk, moose, and rabbits. NEW Granular Plantskydd
is proven effective against: rabbits, voles, squirrels, chipmunks, hares, nutria, opossum and other small critters—as
well as deer and elk.
How often do I need to treat my plants and trees?
• For best protection, treat plants before browse begins in spring or fall.
• Plantskydd powder concentrate
lasts up to 6 months over winter on dormant plants, and 3-4 months during the active growing season.
• IMPORTANT—spray
liquid Plantskydd on dry plants—allow to dry thoroughly for at least 24 hours.
• With proper application,
Plantskydd is rain-resistant and does not require
re-application after watering or rainfall.
• Always treat new growth
—until plant has reached full size or leaf-out.
• Ideally, liquid Plantskydd is sprayed in the morning, or late afternoon, when the sun is not as strong.
•
Granular Plantskydd may be applied at anytime. Re-treat as required.
How should I store Plantskydd?
Protect from heat. Store in cool, dry, dark location. Keep from freezing.
• GRANULAR —lasts 5+ years when stored as directed.
• READY-TO-USE LIQUID —use within 3 months of opening
the sealed container. Apply unused solution as a fertilizer.
• SOLUBLE POWDER CONCENTRATE —in its original packaging,
the concentrate lasts 5+ years. Tightly re-seal unused powder. Plantskydd
is a 100% natural product and will start to go off in warm weather. Once mixed into solution, use within a few days. Apply unused solution as
a fertilizer.
Will Plantskydd hurt my dog?
Some users have reported that the family dog is quite enamoured withPlantskydd when it is sprayed and still wet on the plants. It will not harm
animals, but it’s best to leave Fido inside until the treated plants are dry.
How can I protect fruit trees?
Treat prior to, or 2-3 weeks after bud-flush. Avoid treatment while buds are forming. Treatment over foliage is enough
to deter browsing herbivores.
Whips—if you’re planting young fruit tree whips,
dip them in Plantskydd solution before planting,
or try coating the whip using a paint brush. Then spray trees when the leaves have formed.
Any plants I should avoid treating with Plantskydd?
Plantskydd will darken leaves temporarily.
They return to their normal color in a couple of days. We suggest you test samples of sensitive plants (e.g., roses) before
treating large numbers. If leaves curl on test plants, rinse with a fine spray of water and dilute Plantskydd
solution further. To prevent leaf curl, water plants well at the roots
before treatment.
Note: For aesthetic reasons, use of a concentrated solution
on very fuzzy leaves like Santolina, Lamb’s Ear and Lavender is not recommended—dilute
solution using more water if necessary. Fortunately, these plants are usually not preferred by our furry friends.
